Opinion: What is the best US Airline that flies in and out of EWR (Newark, NJ) for coast to coast travel?
I have a bunch of miles to redeem and want to know which carrier you think is best for continental travel. I most frequently travel from EWR (Newark, NJ) to SFO (San Fran). There is Continental, United, US Airways... any others? Thoughts please... Thanks.

VIRGIN AMERICA! HANDS DOWN!

Continental Airlines. Work hard, fly right. They fly the newest and fastest planes.
3 :
i use jet blue every time they are cheap and have really good seating!
4 :
I would go with Continental since their hub is in Newark, and they will have non-stop flights to SFO.

I'll have to say Virgin America too.

How can i travel from Manhattan to EWR (newark airport) using public transportation ?
Also is it possible that the schedule will get affected on a holiday ? (may 25) memorial day ?

Don't take New Jersey Transit buses on holiday because they're mixed up schedule. Some buses operates on Saturday, some buses on Sunday, some buses weekdays, some buses limited schedule, some buses holiday schedule. Best option will be by New Jersey Transit. New Jersey Transit trains operates on holiday schedule with there will be early gateway train. MTA is mostly either operating on Saturday or Sunday. From New York City Penn Station, buy $15 one way ticket to Newark Liberty Airport. $5.50 Airtrain fee is enconded with ticket. Take Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line to Newark Penn Station. Then transfer to Airtrain Newark to your Terminal A, B, C. Sometimes there might be construction work during the holiday if Memorial Day is on Monday.

Its simple, here how to get from EWR to Penn Station New York by rail. Step 1: take the Airtrain from the terminal to the Newark-Liberty International Airport train station. Step 2: at the Newark-Liberty International Airport train station, purchase a one way NJ Transit ticket from EWR to Penn Station New York and take any New York City-bound (eastbound) train to Penn Station New York. A one way ticket on NJ Transit from EWR to New York Penn Station will cost you $15. I hope this information was very helpful. If you have any questions or need travel directions while in town, just drop me a line by clicking on the avatar and e-mail icon in the profile. I'll be glad to help. Good luck
3 :
Either take a taxi or NJ Transit. NJ Transit is available at Penn Station. Take that to the Newark Liberty Airport station and than take the Airtrain to the terminals. The fare is $15 for NJ Transit and I think it's $5.50 for the Airtrain.

Only like $17 on the shuttle, easier and faster than public transportation http://www.goairlinkshuttle.com/

About Thanksgiving travel between Boston and Newark: Wednesday night or Thursday morning

Thanksgiving travel between Boston and Newark: Wednesday night or Thursday morning?
I am making a Thanksgiving trip between Worcester/Boston (Shrewsbury) Mass. and Newark (Fanwood) NJ, and given that this is a corridor that sees heavy Thanksgiving traffic, I want to know whether traffic is heavier on Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning, or if it is about the same. Also suggested routes would be appreciated.

avoid NYC on Wed. go with the early morning idea. no commuter traffic tied up with the holiday traffic on Thurs. morning. also consider I-84 to NY Thruway to NJ Parkway to Newark area. This will avoid NYC all together.
2 :
Mudpie is right about the route-the crossing at the Tappan Zee Bridge is your best bet. You shouldn't have too much trouble if you leave late on Wednesday night. People leave at different times from locations in New Enlgand throughout the week. The REAL nightmare is everyone trying to return at the same time on Sunday. If you can put off your return until midday Monday you'll be better off. There are loads of shoppers on the roads on Friday and Saturday.
3 :
Most of the roads (not even counting the NYC area) are nightmares pre-Thanksgiving. I traveled to visit relatives for years going from Boston to NJ and PA. Wednesday is possible if you take the day off and get a very early start. On Thursday a very very early start is almost bearable but the tiniest accident along the route and you will be there for hours you hadn't planned on. Besides the usual of 84 to 684 or 395 to 95 I have tried the Mass Pike to the NY Thruway and then dropping down Taconic Parkway to Rt287 across the Tappan Zee. I have tried taking I84 across the Hudson and then dropping down that way. I have tried Rte 1 and I 91 and Rt2 20 instead of the more popular roads. Each has its own problems and choke points. My present approach is Mass Pike to the NYC exit and then take I 84 W from near Hartford to I684 in NY. That gets me to I287 and the approach to Tappan Zee Bridge and then over it to NJ. Coming back I take I95 to 395 to Mass Pike.
4 :
I think traffic would be heavier on Thursday morning. All last minute travelers would think to start early Thursday morning. Try very off hours, like midnight, or 3am. Sounds silly, but that's your best bet.

The cheapest way is bus, but for me personally, I would take Amtrak. Amtrak is more relaxing and you don't have to wait for hours in traffic.
2 :
I would take a train, much more comfortable and quicker without traffic.
3 :
The train is faster, cleaner and more expensive. The bus and cheap, slower and can be crowded. You maybe able to find a flight for less than the train ticket. It just depends on what you want.

My friend, in regards to Six Flags, take the Newark Airtrain form the terminal to Newark Airport train station. Once at Newark Airtrain train station, take any New York or Hoboken-bound train to Newark Penn Station. At Newark Penn Station, transfer to the NJ Bus route 308 to Six Flags. In regard to Edison, take the Newark Airtrain form the terminal to Newark Airport train station. Once at Newark Airtrain train station, take NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor Line bound for Trenton and get off at Metropark. From there take the bus to you final destination on Oak Tree Road. In regard to the US Open, take the Newark Airtrain form the terminal to Newark Airport train station. Once at Newark Airtrain train station, take any New York or Hoboken-bound train to Penn Station New York. At Penn Station NY, transfer to the New York Subway. Take the uptown (northbound) #1, 2 or 3 subway lines (Red Line) from Penn Station to Times Square. At Times Square, transfer downstairs to the Queens-bound (eastbound) #7 train (Purple Line). Take the 7 train from Times Square to Willest Point-Shea Stadium, where a shuttle bus will take you to the National Tennis Center. I hope this infomation is very helpful. If you have any questions or need travel directions while in town, just drop me a line by clicking on the avatar and e-mail icon in the profile. Good luck and enjoy your trip. Native New Yorker

The first thing to know is that the Econo Lodge is no where near the Airtrain. Its located on Route 1, not in the Airport, the only transportation that you are going to find there are Airport shuttles and cabs, and a bus that you have to walk across a really busy intersection to, unless you rent a car. Second of all, I've heard some really bad reviews about that hotel, are you sure you really want to stay there? Third of all, in order to get to Six Flags(are you sure you want to go there, I've had some really bad experiences there), from there, you have to get yourself to Newark Penn Station by taking the 62 Newark Bus from the corner of Rt 1 and North Avenue to Newark Penn Station. At Newark Penn Station, take the 308 bus to Six Flags. To get to Oak Tree Road by train, note this is NOT in Edison at all, its located in Iselin (I live on the other side of Iselin, and thats one our claim to fames), dont call it Edison. Take the 62 Newark bound bus to Newark Penn Station. Take the Trenton bound Northeast Corridor New Jersey Transit train to Metro Park. At Metro Park, you can actually walk it, its about 3/4 of a mile walk. By bus: Depart : ADAMS AVE. & NORTH AVE.(On 56 Winfield - exact fare), and get off at BROAD ST. & JERSEY ST. From there transfer to the BROAD ST. & JERSEY ST.(On 62 Perth Amboy - exact fare) and get off at OAK TREE RD. & MIDDLESEX AVE which is right there. To get to the National Tennis Center, take the 62 Newark bus to Newark Penn Station. At Newark, take any New York Penn bound NJ Transit train to New York. Once you get to Penn Station you have two options, you can take the LIRR to the Shea Stadium station, which is the same stop as the National Tennis Center. Or you can take the 1,2, or 3 subway uptown one stop to the Port Authority and transfer to the 7 train, getting off at Wilets Point/Shea Stadium.

bus. Whatever you do, don't get stuck in that airport in Newark!!! It sucks. It's the worst airport to have to spend time in.

amtrak I take it the flight cost was too high into the DC airports but the cost of transportation from newark to dc might justify it, not counting time spent traveling.

Taking a taxi is an obvious choice, but is there a cheaper way that is reasonable for a tourist? The trip will be in July and the flight will be arriving around 11PM.

Hey! You may want to try a van service. There are a few of them and most are $19 each way from the airport to your hotel. A taxi will cost many times that amount, plus tolls, tip, etc. Try Super-Shuttle or other such van service. I hope this helps!
2 :
My friend, the hotel is located at Broadway between West 47th and West 48th Street. The cheapest way to get there is by public transit. Here how to get to the Crowne Plaza Times Square from Newark Airport. Step 3: at Penn Station, transfer to the New York City Subway. Take the uptown (northbound) #1 local train (Red Line on the map) from Penn Station to 50th Street. The fare on the subway is $2 one way. Step 4: at 50th Street, exit the subway station and walk two and half block south (toward the TKTS Ticket Booth) from the subway station to the hotel, which is located on the west side of Broadway. I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck and happy travels Native New Yorker

1605 Broadway is near 49th Street. Of course, there are two options. FAST AND DIRECT WAY; Look for New Jersey Transit Ticket Vending Machine at your terminals, where you'll see list of station names and code next to it. Type the code for Penn Station. It cost $15 one way. Take Airtrain Newark to Newark Liberty Airport Station. Airtrain fee is encoded with $15 one way ticket. Then take NJ Transit to New York Penn Station. Weekdays: Last NJ Transit train schedule to arrive/depart 2:03am daily. Chepest way. Have $1.35 (Paper Money accepted) and wait for New Jersey Transit Bus marked "62 Newark" which stops at Terminal A, B, and C. Last 62 arrives/leaves 3:30am at Terminal A. Take #62 bus to last stop, Newark Penn Station. Follow sign to PATH train and paid $1.75 on PATH system and take World Trade Center train to Journal Sq for 33rd St Train. From Penn Station Take uptown (1) local on 7th Av side from 34th St-Penn Station to 50th St which is on Broadway side. Walk south on Broadway to one block, 49th St where you'll see Crown Plaza. From 33rd St-6th Av PATH Take Queens-bound N, Q, R, or W weekdays only to 49th St-7th Av.

Skitching (i.e. "ski-hitching" or "skate-hitching") is the act of hitching a ride on the rear bumper of a car when there is ice or slick snow on the roads. This can also be done with a skateboard or roller skates in urban areas where there is no ice or snow. In addition, skitching can be performed on a bicycle.

I don't mean to not answer your question, but there is train service from Newark Airport to NYC--they have a light rail shuttle that connects to the Northeast Corridor. I believe that Newark Airport is now either the last or second to last stop before Penn Station New York. Also, a quick look at the New Jersey Transit bus schedule makes it look like there is (surprisingly) no bus out of the airport, but perhaps if you dig around you'll find the opposite. Happy travelling!
7 :
take the path train or nj transit train- its soo much faster than a bus. njtransit.com
8 :
There is no bus from Newark Airport to NYC. However life is made so much easier for you nowadays. From the terminal, take the Air Train to the Newark Liberty International Airport New Jersey Transit Station (thats the full name of it, a mouth full I know). I believe you may have to buy your train ticket before hand, its $15.00 per person (adult one way). Follow the signs to trains to NYC. Its either going to be the Northeast Corridor Line or North Jersey Coast Line coming in. Trains run anywhere from 2-6 times an hour along that route. Its about a 20 minute or train ride, and your in Penn Station in NYC.
9 :
The Olympia Trails bus into Manhattan cost $14 one way. http://www.coachusa.com/olympia/ You can also take a city bus to the PATH station in Newark and catch the train there into Manhattan. That's 1 city bus fare + a PATH fare and is probably the cheapest way to go. The only problem is dealing with your luggage on and off the bus and on and off the PATH train.

There is a train system (PATH) that stops in both Newark and Jersey City en route to NYC, for $1.75 each way. There is another train system (NJ Transit) that stops in Newark on the way into NYC. NJ Transit also operates numerous bus routes from NJ to NYC (and back). It's difficult to give you more details without knowing exactly where you seek to stay. The Pavonia area of Jersey City is the most convenient for getting to NYC, but those hotels are also more expensive than the ones out by Newark airport (where you will have a long and complicated trip into NYC). http://www.panynj.gov/CommutingTravel/path/html/map.html http://www.njtransit.com
2 :
It's good, but do you know how far Newark/Jersey City is from NYC without a car? It takes a while to get there. You need to take the NJ Transit, then transfer to the PATH Train, then transfer to the MTA at either 14th St. or 34th St. to get to where you need to go. Depending on how far you are from the nearest NJ Transit train or the PATH Train, it can easily take up to 45 minutes to an hour Are you sure you want to be walking around in Newark and taking the transit around there? Have you never heard about Newark...?
3 :
The transportation system is fine, but Newark is one of the most dangerous cities in the country. Most of the criminals that Giuliani kicked out of NYC moved to Newark, and i IMPLORE you to find a hotel in a different city. Parts of it are safe, of course, but most of it is not.
